FOP Review #4: "Transparents"
Hey
folks. It's Turtle again with some more Fairly Oddparents. This time
we're meeting Denzel Crocker, and man is he off his rocker. Will
Timmy be able to keep his FAIRY GODPARENTS?!?!
Let's find out in “Transparents”.
Title card from the Fairly Oddparents Wiki
Our
story begins with show-and-tell.
“Well
Mr. Crocker, for show and tell I brung my dog, Mange.”
Wasn't
that Buttercup's superhero name from when the Powerpuff Girls went
solo for an episode?
Also
Mange eats first graders, which are all kept in a giant glass jar.
How are those kids not dead from the lack of air?
Timmy
speaks with Cosmo and Wanda, who are disguised as pencils about his
show and tell project.
Oh
now
they can shapeshift into other things. Where was that ability last
episode?
Francis
receives a “D” and Timmy comes up to the front. Timmy opens a
lunchbox to reveal a small purple dinosaur.
Oh
no! It's the spawn of Barney!
Crocker
is so disgruntled he pays no attention at first, ready to give Timmy
a “D”. Crocker soon realizes it's the real deal. Crocker reasons
that no child would have access to the technology required to clone a
dinosaur. (Well except AJ, but he isn't a genius yet, apparently)
Crocker reasons that Timmy has fairies.
The
dinosaur runs out of the room. Timmy tries to chase after it, but
Crocker stops him. Crocker says he wants to have a word with Timmy's
parents. Crocker makes it pretty obvious that he believes Timmy has
fairies, but Timmy kind of ignores that for now.
Later
that day, Timmy, Chester, and AJ are in a three way call. Timmy tells
Chester and AJ that they must get the project back. At the end of the
conversation, Chester and Timmy just hang up.
“Doesn't
anyone say goodbye anymore?”
Wait
until r/r4r is invented. There, people will stop talking to you with
no explanation.
After
almost beating the candy out a pinata Cosmo, Wanda suggests she and
Cosmo pose as Timmy's parents. Timmy wishes for them to become human.
Timmy
tries to coach them on how to be human. Wanda poofs up a fan to fan
away Cosmo's gas (yes really), and gets scolded. Cosmo talks really
fast and almost passes out due to lack of air, not realizing that as
a mortal, he has to breathe. They also bump into the wall not
realizing they can't walk through walls anymore.
Well,
fairies do believe that doors are for chumps.
The
next morning, Wanda is driving Cosmo and Timmy to school and
wreaking havoc in her wake. Seriously, the city is shown to be on
fire. Also, Wanda can just automatically drive. Well, I guess she
could poof up a fake license.
Meanwhile
with Wackjob
Crocker, he's talking about how he's finally found proof of fairies.
Chester and AJ are peeking in through the door and set off a cuckoo
clock. Also, Chester and AJ are wearing Jurassic Park outfits. Well,
this might be the only time they hunt a dinosaur, so they might as
well.
Crocker
rants about how he's been a laughingstock for his belief in the
existence of magical creatures. He was apparently at both Harvard and
Baltimore Community College at one point. I suppose he was
well-respected at one point.
Crocker
goes to his Crocker Cave, which is a phone booth in the janitor's
closet. Why is there a phone booth in the janitor's closet? Does it
lead to Section 13?
Crocker
wants to harness Cosmo and Wanda's power to take over the world and
take revenge on those who mocked him in the past.
Wanda
arrives at the school and notices a “Fairies” parking spot, she
almost parks there but Timmy grabs the wheel, steering them away from
certain doom.
I'd
say that only an idiot would fall for that, but it seems like Cosmo
and Wanda are both idiots. Or as Cosmo put it a couple of episodes
back “Two halves of a whole idiot.”
Chester
and AJ are still chasing the dinosaur when Crocker catches them.
Crocker tries to make a deal with them, they bring him the dinosaur,
and Chester and AJ get a position of power when Crocker takes over
the world. Chester accepts.
Beats
living in a trailer park, I suppose.
Timmy,
Cosmo, and Wanda arrive at the classroom, and Wanda greets him by
throwing him into a desk.
“Uh
sorry Mr. Crocker. Mom's uh..”
“A
fairy?”
Not
even trying to hide it anymore. Also, Crocker moved from the parking
lot, through the school, and made it to the classroom before Timmy
did. Impressive.
Crocker
has set up an electric chair in the classroom to determine whether or
not Cosmo and Wanda are fairies.
“If
they survive they're FAIRIES!
If they don't, I HAVE TENURE!”
I don't think having tenure
prevents you from going to prison for murder, Crazypants
Crocker.
Crocker
slips and falls into the chair, along with a random fish Cosmo had
because why not? Crocker is electrocuted, but survives.
By
that logic, you're a fairy, Crocker.
Chester
and AJ continue to chase the dinosaur, but it runs into the girl's
bathroom. They argue for a while about who should go in, and both
walk in.
Crocker
gives Cosmo and Wanda coffee, which causes them to have to go to the
bathroom. Crocker leads them to the bathrooms: “Boys, Girls, and
Mystical creatures”
I
didn't think “mystical creature” was its own gender.
Wanda
almost goes into the “Mystical creatures” bathroom, but Principal
Waxelplax shows up and Wanda lets her go ahead. The
principal gets trapped in some kind of contraption inside a stall.
Chester
and AJ barge in with a box, claiming they've caught the dinosaur.
Crocker urges Chester to give him the box, but he throws the box to
Timmy. Crocker snatches the box back. Crocker talks up about how he
finally has proof of fairies. Timmy whispers into Cosmo and Wanda's
ears, and they use their wands. There's a poof inside the box while
Crocker isn't looking. Crocker opens the box to reveal.....a dog in a
costume.
All
four of them are put in detention: Timmy for faking his project,
Chester and AJ for going into the girls' bathroom, and Crocker for
“trapping [Waxelplax] in a toilet paper cocoon and promising two
small boys they could enslave the Earth”.
The
episode and ends with Waxelplax backing into the fairy parking space
and falling through a trap door.
This
was a decent episode. It had a couple of decent jokes. There were a
few plot issues, though. Like, wishing up a dinosaur for show and
tell. That would've been suspicious even without Crocker being
obsessed with fairies. I also question why Crocker didn't take the
dinosaur in the first place. I suppose he predicted that Timmy would
have his fairy godparents pose as his human parents.
Despite
its flaws, it's pretty okay. I give “Transparents” a Good
rating.
