FOP Review #2: "Power Mad"

Hey folks. It's Turtle again. I'm back with another FOP review. This time it's “Power Mad”. Timmy has to save his friends from dying in a video game. Let's see how things go.

We open with Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda inside a video game. They're attacked by shadowy figures, who proceed to throw carrots at them.

Timmy does a Matrix dodge because references.

The assailants step out of the shadows to reveal they are.....ninja bunnies.

Timmy removes his helmet to leave the game, frustrated that his opponents were cute woodland creatures.

Vicky barges in due to the noise, since it was disrupting her TV time.

I don't know about you, but it feels a bit weird that Vicky isn't actively torturing Timmy in this episode.

Timmy asks that Cosmo and Wanda make the game better while he's in the bathroom.

“I wish for a game that's challenging. A game you can't wish yourself out of.”

Wanda notes that they'll need a lot of power to make it work, so she and Cosmo plug in their wands to make the wish. This causes a city-wide power surge.

Chester and AJ are walking by Timmy's house when this happens and assume the cause is Timmy getting a new video game.

This is probably before they settled on AJ being a genius because the only way he'd jump to that conclusion is if he's an idiot.

Chester and AJ barge into Timmy's house and go up to his room to play the game.

Vicky let them in? I guess she was distracted.

“Where's the dude?”
“It's 6:13. Timmy always goes to the bathroom at 6:13.”
“That's weird. He always struck em as a.....7:43 whizzinator.”

Why are they interested in their friend's bathroom habits?

Chester and AJ put on the helmets and enter the game.

Timmy returns from the bathroom to discover what has happened.

Chester and AJ mock Timmy for his usual choice in games, and Timmy thinks about resetting the game out of spite. Wanda stops him, revealing that if the game is shut off, or they lose all their lives, Chester and AJ will “disappear forever”

Because TV-Y7

Timmy tries to wish them out of the game, but Cosmo points out that Timmy wished for a game that you can't wish yourself out of.

Well technically Chester and AJ aren't wishing themselves out, but sure.

You have to either win the game or remove your helmet.

The power surges yet again, and Timmy discovers that any additional electrical device that Vicky uses will blow the power, shutting the game off.

Timmy goes into the game, telling Cosmo and Wanda to keep Vicky from using any more power.

Vicky plugs in a lot of electronics. Cosmo quickly unplugs everything and leads Wanda into the TV. Wanda is ecstatic that Cosmo actually had an idea.

Savor it while it lasts, Wanda.

Cosmo and Wanda proceed to do a bunch of mock television programs, some actual parodies.

Timmy loses his first life on level one.

“I lost a life! On level one! What am I, 4?”

Hmm. Needs some tweaking

That's more like it.

The power surges, which causes AJ to fall and lose a life.

Timmy approaches level 8, which is an underwater version of his Aunt Gertrude's house. A giant lobster woman appears to pinch his cheeks.

“I hope she means my face.”

She better or else you're related to a potential sex offender.

Timmy finds a pink coin and picks it up. Wanda appears to grant one wish. Timmy wishes for cheeks of steel.

“I hope you mean your face.”

Wanda he didn't ask for buns of steel.

Meanwhile, with Cosmo.....

“It's a show about nothing. How do we know when it's over?”

It's over when all your previous enemies take you to court.

Timmy catches up with Chester and AJ in “The Classroom of Doom”. Timmy tries to get them to stop playing, but Chester and AJ want to go forward. AJ pushes Chester off the platform to cause him to lose a life, putting everyone at two lives.

If this were online multiplayer, AJ would've gotten reported for team killing.

Cosmo finally ran out of show ideas, so the TV no longer works. Vicky plugs everything back in, causing the power to go out. Cosmo quickly switches the power source to a treadmill-powered generator to power the game.

Timmy, Chester, and AJ enter the final level. It appears to be the Turners' living room at first, but a giant mechanical Vicky emerges from beneath the floor, claiming she will eat them.

So how does that work with being a robot? Will she just chew them up and cough them back up later like a titan or.....?

Vicky steps on all three boys, quickly putting them at one life.

She is getting ready to sit on them. Because she's a babysitter.

Vicky almost crushes Chester and AJ, but Timmy pushes them out of the way and is killed instead.

Wow! Second episode and Timmy's already dead.

As it turns out, sacrificing himself got Timmy a 1-Up. And it only took 50 million points.

Timmy notices a Cosmo coin and declares they go after it.

After a brief struggle, Timmy gets the coin. Timmy wishes for something to stop Vicky, and Timmy's parents appear to relieve Vicky, which causes her to melt.

Well it makes sense. A bit anticlimactic, though.

Timmy, Chester, and AJ leave the game. Vicky barges in again to shoo away Chester and AJ. Timmy decided to give Vicky the virtual reality helmet, claiming it will put her into her favorite TV programs. Vicky is put into the game and quickly begins losing lives.

Wow! Second episode and Vicky's already dead.

This episode was pretty okay. Not a lot of good jokes, but it had some decent tension like with the power surges and Vicky discovering the electronics being unplugged. It had a better climax than the last episode. A surprise 1-Up actually works, unlike the corner “The Big Problem” wrote itself into with the whole “wanting your mom and dad awakens your inner child” thing.

Despite some of the problems I have with it, it barely swims past “meh” and into Good territory.
