FOP Review #7: "A Wish Too Far"
Hey
folks it's Turtle again with another FOP review. This time, Timmy
tries to get in with the popular kids. Will Timmy be a giant turd in
the process? Let's find out in “A Wish Too Far”.
Title card from Fairly Oddparents Wiki
Our
story begins on the school bus.
“Hey
AJ. Why did the orange go to the doctor?”
“Who
cares? It's just gonna end in a pun.”
Starting
off strong, I see. Timmy notices his crush, Trixie Tang getting on
the bus. Timmy kicks Chester and AJ off the seat to make room for
her.
“Hey
Trixie”
“Hello,
empty bus seat.'
What
is she blind? No, wait, that's just her voice actress. Trixie doesn't
pay attention to unpopular people. There's apparently a popularity
chart for the school and Timmy, AJ, and Chester or in the “other”
range. Along with some kid with a huge boil, but more on him later.
In
the cafeteria, the popular kids are sitting at their table with some
guy playing the violin.
Wow
these kids are loaded enough to spring for that. You'd think they'd
all go to a private school or something.
Timmy
tries talking to them, but they just carry the table away. The
violinist serenades Timmy.
Getting
“world's smallest violin” flashbacks from Spongebob.
Timmy
discovers the popular kids have their own bathrooms. He tries to go
in, but is denied by a bouncer.
Okay
why do schoolchildren have a bouncer? Loaded or not, that's kinda
ridiculous.
Back
at home, Timmy complains about being unpopular. Cosmo and Wanda
encourage him, saying he's number one as far as they're concerned.
Timmy is basically “no shit, you're my godparents”. Do abusive
relationships not exist in this universe or.....?
Timmy
concludes that if he had cool stuff the right people will like him.
“But
you'd be making friends for the wrong reasons.”
“So?”
Timmy
with his trademark “not giving a fuck”.
After
his parent's leave, Timmy demands his godparents give him cool
clothes.
“Timmy,
aren't there two words you'd like to say?”
Imaginary
Gary? Oh right “thank you” my bad.
Timmy
is ungrateful and forces Cosmo and Wanda to go to school with him in
case he needs more stuff.
On
the bus....
“Where'd
you get all this stuff?”
“Ummm
internet.....inheritance.......I inherited the internet.”
I
hope you're ready for everything to turn into memes in like a decade.
Timmy
boots Chester and AJ off the seat to make room for Trixie again.
Chester and AJ are forced to sit with Elmer and his boil.
Good
luck with your newspaper article, boys.
Trixie
notices Timmy, and her friend Veronica notes that it might be a trap
due to how suddenly he changed. Timmy wishes for shiny teeth.
Shiny
teeth that sparkle, just like the stars in space? That sparkle and
add beauty to your face? Oops, a bit early for that.
After
school, Tad, Chad and Trixie discuss possible plans for the day.
Timmy, not to be one-upped says that his parents are out of town and
there will a party that night. Timmy is confronted by Chester and AJ.
Afterward, they name Elmer the new Timmy.
“Can
my boil have a hat too?”
Bob
is just an average boil that no one understands
Back
at the house, Timmy wishes for a bunch of stuff for the party. Timmy
clearly has a poor attitude about all of this. Before his house
becomes a mansion, Timmy is poofed into fairy court. The prosecuting
attorney is Rainier Wolfcastle
Jorgen Von Strangle. Cosmo volunteers to be the defense attorney to
Timmy and Wanda's chagrin.
At
least it's not post-Marmel Cosmo, guys.
Timmy
is being sued for misusing his fairies.
Was
the one girl who started World War I brought to trial too? I'm just
going to assume yes.
Cosmo
does nothing to help Timmy's case. Timmy realizes that he should've
been more grateful.
The
judge is willing to let him go, but Jorgen intimidates him resulting
in a guilty verdict. Timmy must give up his fairies.
Timmy
is poofed back to his house, and the stuff is still there. He is
distraught about the loss of Cosmo and Wanda. A crowd gathers outside
Timmy's house and he comes out in his regular clothes.
Cue
corny speech about being true to yourself. Tad and Chad invite
everyone (except Timmy, Chester, AJ, and Elmer) to their yacht.
Trixie admires Timmy's decision and kisses him. She refuses an
invitation to hang out with Timmy and pals.
You're
giving us mixed signals, Trixie.
Timmy
is accepted by Chester and AJ again, leaving Elmer to just be the
boil kid again. Timmy gives Elmer the title of “1st Runner-up
Timmy”
The
judge sees this and overturns his decision. Jorgen protests but Wanda
intimidates him into obliging. But under one condition.
You'd
think they'd have to appeal for a retrial or something. But I guess
fairies don't believe in red tape. That's more of a pixie thing.
Timmy
get his fairies back and all is right. Well, sort of. Jorgen comes by
to put a boil on Timmy's face. Timmy uses the party stuff to throw a
party for Cosmo and Wanda as the episode ends.
Man,
this episode was cliche to all hell. It had some funny moments, but
you knew the status quo wasn't going to be affected. The big trope
was Timmy getting too big for his britches, and then there was the
lessons about gratitude and being yourself, but as troperific as the
episode was, it all works.
“A
Wish Too Far” gets a Good
rating.
